The Warwickshire village of Bidford, situated 4 miles from Alcester, once held its own series of races in the 19th century. The first recorded meeting took place on 19th April 1838, with meetings continuing to be held from time to time for the next 28 years. A final card of four races took place on Wednesday 11th April 1866 when the feature race was the Town Plate. It was a hotly contested 2 mile race which saw Mr Allington’s Glen Saddle overcome the determined challenge of Brunette and Amy. |
